Sailing Vessel (S/V) Two Fish is a 2014 Antares 44i Catamaran built in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We are the third owners of Two Fish (hence the ‘take three’ part. Also, there are three fish aboard the boat in this iteration). The boat was commissioned by a couple who blogged their adventures here. It was purchased by another couple in 2018 and used lightly around the British Virgin Islands. It is a fascinating read and we hope to achieve a fraction of what the former owners accomplished.
The Antares 44i is a catamaran (two hulls, vs. a monohull having one. From mono, meaning one, and hull, meaning hull). These boats are semi-custom and only 3 or 4 are made a year. Our boat is hull number 4444, or the 44th boat made. I think Antares hull numbers are in the mid-70s as of mid-2024.
Each Antares is similar. There are 3 berths or bedrooms. Two heads, or bathrooms, and the galley, or kitchen, is in the port (left) hull between two berths. The middle of the boat contains the salon, or living room, and the cockpit, or back porch.
Also on the back porch is the helm station where you drive the boat. The boat is powered by 5 sails and/or two motors, depending on the availability and flavor of the wind. You steer with a wheel like a car (only the wheel is WAY bigger) or using the two motors. We will do a video tour at some point and post it here so you can see all of these parts and how moving the boat works.
The boat has a refrigerator, freezer, and – believe it or not – air conditioning and heat. We are not roughing it by any means. Well, except that many of these systems are frequently in need of maintenance or repair. It is said that liveaboard cruising (living on a boat and cruising around the world) is doing repairs on your boat in exotic places.
Living on the boat can be very comfortable if everything is working properly. We have a great shower, a stove, an oven, a watermaker that turns seawater into drinking water, and even a washing machine!
We are proud to continue the stewardship of this vessel after the first and second owners and look forward to where on our beautiful Earth she may take us.
