This week we had a trip back to SWVA to see Kathleen’s neurosurgeon. Healing as expected – no achilles reflex which isn’t surprising giving the extent of injury. The PA was hopeful that given she’s younger and healthier than their average patient that the majority of function will return. Though this can take many months. She is to go slow. Ok to start physical therapy, but must go slow. Please send all the good wishes to Chris as he tries to repeatedly remind her to go slow!
Kathleen has successfully recovered the dying horseshoe bouy, saving the cost of buying a new one ($220 at West Marine – sheesh!). We have made some incredible meals on board in our little galley. Big event for the week was Hurricane Debby – we are nice and far up a protected creek in the Chesapeake so we missed the brunt of it, but it was still a low-quantity sleep night. That and boat work. Chris replaced the winch switches – they had been in the sun so long not only did the covers get degraded by the sun but they literally melted gummy stuff down into the switch mechanism. Nothing like a winch turning itself on in the middle of the night and ‘running away’ with a line to give your sphincter tone a testing. He also replaced a leaking hatch. We should get some rain this coming week so we will be testing it for leaks. On a fun-exciting note, we have Starlink! How amazing is it that we can watch TV and cruise facebook whenever we want (and look up how to tie a rolling hitch in the middle of the night when the winch – and our brains -went off!).
