So this week started with going back for the last day of the Wahoo Blitz at Staniel Cay Yacht Club. It wasn’t quite the part it was on Saturday, but we had a great time with friends. Another snorkel of Thunderball Grotto. Crab races for the kids and adults hanging out with adults. One more beautiful sunset from the beach.

Tuesday found us up super early, getting ready to head to Georgetown. The moon setting over the horizon where the sun had set the previous day. What a beautiful sendoff. We figured in the way that is our luck we would be motoring if we wanted to make it to Georgetown. We tried putting up the mainsail but in order to actually sail we would be pulled so far off course to keep our wind angle that we bailed on sailing. We wanted to ensure we hit the cut going from the Exuma bank out to the Exuma trough with the outgoing tide, so timing was important. Even so, it was a really bumpy ride! We went from motoring at 5 knots to over 7 due to the pull of the current, with waves coming from varied directions. Fun times.

Our long motor south into the wind & waves was punctuated by catching our first mahi! Woohoo fish on! Lessons were learned. Put Lily inside so we aren’t worried about her leaping or falling off the boat in her excitement. I still get seasick. Mahi blood is hard to clean off gelcoat when it dries on. Wind up your line when pulling on a fish; don’t let it collect in a pile (this was a hand line, not a rod and reel).

We arrived to the Georgetown area after dark, so we pulled into Hoopers Bay right inside the cut where our buddies on RIMA were anchored, knowing it was empty there while Georgetown had over 200 vessels. First time night anchoring – more lessons learned!
In the way of boats, our next morning was spent trying to fix our windlass chain stripper as it started going Kagrrrrrunkchunkchunk when anchoring in the dark. Chris was able to bend the stripper back in shape and we were lucky to find the exact bolts we needed at a lumber store in town.

The afternoon found us moving into Georgetown proper, anchoring next to buddies we hadn’t seen since Palm Beach. And then some provisioning (success) and a search for ice cream (struck out).
